#WomenVotes empowering women for elected office
Washington, DC — Modern politics combines with technology to help shape the social landscape with the official launch of Carpool2Vote.com (http://www.carpool2vote.com) and the first-ever free ride-sharing app to the polls. The non-partisan app seeks to empower women voters and increase voter turnout by connecting voters needing a ride to the polls with volunteer drivers.
Carpool2Vote founders, Nicole Wild Merl and Thomas Cook, conceived of the concept long before women emerged as a key and decisive group shaping the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. “We just thought, who better to advocate and help women balancing work and family lives than those women who coined the term ‘carpool?’ Our app has no stake in this election other than to harness the power of social media, mobile technology and women’s commitment to improving their communities.” Since launching Carpool2Vote and WomenVotes.org early this year, Wild Merl and Cook have been joined by an impressive community of collaborators that include government representatives, women’s networking associations and media companies.
As a volunteer-based initiative, the more drivers that exist means the more people Carpool2Vote can help to the polls on November 8th. A Call to Action is now in progress to recruit drivers and riders across the USA to download the Carpool2Vote app and sign up. To further spread the word, Carpool2Vote is being promoted by AMC Networks Inc., which will support outreach and inspire civic engagement through online support on its corporate website and network websites. AMC Networks Inc. owns and operates several of the most popular and award-winning brands in cable television: AMC, BBC AMERICA, IFC, SundanceTV, and WE tv.
Carpool2Vote is a digital platform of The WomenVotes.org blog and social platforms, which were created via the first-ever virtual Education Cooperative from Northeastern University College of Professional Studies for the public benefit and is a non-partisan volunteer effort. The app was designed by Justin Insalaco, the CEO of 3BDreams, with the help of his team including Chief Architect, Matt Young and Advisor Will Donovan.
To bring the project from passion to scale, Carpool2Vote is using Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) cloud services and a cloud management portfolio. “By running the Carpool2Vote app in the cloud, the WomenVotes team can take the heavy lifting out of building their infrastructure, so they can focus on getting voters to the polls on election day,” said Teresa Carlson, VP of AWS World Wide Public Sector.
Carpool2Vote and WomenVotes.org support organizations and influencers include: Ellevate Network, National Association for Female Executives, Working Mother, and the Internet of Women community, led by Monique Morrow.
The app is live and can be downloaded in the Apple App Store (Carpool2Vote) or directly at http://womenvotes.org/. In just a few steps, you can create a profile as either a driver or user. The Carpool2Vote app uses barcode technology to ensure that drivers and riders can identify valid users of the system to ensure safety for drivers and riders.
